pingtype.

Step 5 of 6 · Tracking

Know where every lead came from

Every click gets an ID that stays with the lead, so you can see which publisher and offer sent it. When a lead sells, a postback tells the publisher.

What you can do

Tracking, in plain words.

  • See clicks, leads and sales for every publisher and offer
  • Server-to-server postbacks tell publishers when a lead sells
  • Use your own web address, like go.yourbrand.com
For example: Publisher X sends a click that becomes a sold lead. A postback tells Publisher X straight away, so their numbers match yours.

In detail

What is server-to-server tracking?

When a visitor clicks a publisher's link, pingtype gives that click an ID. The ID travels with the visitor through the form and stays on the lead. When the lead is sold, pingtype sends the ID back to the publisher in a server-to-server postback: a message sent directly between servers, with no browser involved.

That makes the numbers dependable. Browser pixels and cookies can be blocked, but a postback does not depend on the visitor's browser. Publisher and buyer reports can then be matched click by click, which is what ends payout arguments.

Questions

What is a postback?

A message one server sends to another when something happens. When a lead sells, pingtype sends a postback to the publisher, so their own tracking records the sale.

Do I need to change my landing pages?

Only to paste the form line if you use a pingtype form. Tracking carries the click ID through for you.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Add a domain like go.yourbrand.com and point it at pingtype with a DNS record.
